The Home & School Association of the Villa Augustina School is an organization comprised of all parents/guardians of children attending the school and all school faculty. Parents of alumni are also eligible for honorary membership and may participate within the Association, excluding holding a leadership position.
Leadership for the Association is provided by the H & S Assn. Executive Committee. Membership is on a voluntary basis and elects a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer annually from members of the Executive Committee. The Association is an official subcommittee of the Villa Augustina School Board, therefore the President of H & S becomes a voting member of the School Board and one of two parent representatives on the Board.
Purpose
With the school mission serving as a foundation, the Association purpose is to plan and conduct activities that:
a: maintain and improve understanding and communication between parents,
faculty and administrators of the school.
b. promote the ideals of a Christian Community among parents, faculty and
administrators of the school.
c. contribute to the financial support of the school.
Promoting Communication
The H&S Assn conducts at least two general membership meetings during the school year. At a minimum, one is held in conjunction with the Open House held at the beginning of the school year and another is held shortly before the end of the school year. The Executive Committee meets monthly and all members are welcomed to attend and participate at these. Very frequent written communications are sent home in the School's "weekly envelope" to keep members informed of current activities.
Community Building
A variety of activities are planned to promote the ideals of the school within the student
body during the classroom time, or for the whole family during social gatherings.
Examples of these include:
-
Annual "Beginning of the School Year" Mass and free BBQ
-
Parent Enrichment Nights
-
Family Dances
-
Seasonal Family Fun Days
-
Pot Luck Meals
-
Catholic School Week support
-
Financial funding of educational supplies & programs such as: computer technology and maintenance
-
Special collections for the needy locally and abroad
Environment Enrichment
A variety of projects have been undertaken to improve the environment for all who spend time at the Villa. Such projects have included: classroom carpeting; lighting and public address system in Rosary Hall; playground renovation.
Financial Support
Few projects can be completed without some financial resources. To this end, the Association sponsors 2 major fundraisers during the school year: a major gift item fundraiser at the beginning of the school year and the infamous Villa Augustina Annual Penny Sale held in the Spring. These two events provide funds that are used for those projects that improve the educational process and environment beyond the capacity of the routine yearly school budget. The success of these events are entirely dependent upon the amount of participation from the entire membership.
Other smaller ongoing fundraisers are conducted to support H & S projects. These fundraisers are often programs that are offered by outside organizations with percentages of income coming back to the school. Current programs include: "Box Tops for Education" program; Land's End Rebates for Schools; and "Pennies for the Poor & Playground" program. Other such programs are continually evaluated for use to build the H & S financial resources.
Regardless of the source, the majority of the fundraising profits are spent within the current school year with a small fund balance saved for the academic year.
Becoming Involved
No matter how great or small the contribution, every contribution is needed to continue the mission of the Villa Augustina. If you are interested in learning more about your Home & School Association, please contact your child's teacher or the school office staff. A member of the Executive Committee will be most happy to contact you!
